Narrative:

Glenrose 5 (jen 5) arrival. Vectored for visual approach to runway 18R. Cleared for visual and instructed to switch dfw tower frequency 124.15. First officer (PNF) inadvertently switched 126.55 and reported 'right base for runway 18R.' tower said 'don't you want runway 17L?' I (captain, PF) nodded 'ok' and first officer said 'sure, we'll take runway 17L.' I leveled off and continued base leg across runway 18R, runway 18L, runway 17R, runway 17C and began approach but saw conflict with another saab 340B. We were between the frequency mix-up and similar call signs, several mins of confusion ensued both in the air and on the ground. We were told to go around, then entered a left downwind followed by clearance to land on runway 17L. After landing, I discussed the problem with a tower supervisor to find out what occurred. During our approach and crossing over to runway 17L, we experienced a TCASII RA, probably due to other company aircraft. Thought it is uncommon to be given a runway change close in and on tower frequency, it is very common to have 1 or 2 runway changes while being vectored for a visual.

Title: SAAB-340 WITH WRONG FREQ HAS FURTHER CONFUSION WITH SIMILAR CALL SIGNS AND CONFLICT BEFORE FIGURING OUT WHAT HAD HAPPENED AT DFW.

Narrative: GLENROSE 5 (JEN 5) ARR. VECTORED FOR VISUAL APCH TO RWY 18R. CLRED FOR VISUAL AND INSTRUCTED TO SWITCH DFW TWR FREQ 124.15. FO (PNF) INADVERTENTLY SWITCHED 126.55 AND RPTED 'R BASE FOR RWY 18R.' TWR SAID 'DON'T YOU WANT RWY 17L?' I (CAPT, PF) NODDED 'OK' AND FO SAID 'SURE, WE'LL TAKE RWY 17L.' I LEVELED OFF AND CONTINUED BASE LEG ACROSS RWY 18R, RWY 18L, RWY 17R, RWY 17C AND BEGAN APCH BUT SAW CONFLICT WITH ANOTHER SAAB 340B. WE WERE BTWN THE FREQ MIX-UP AND SIMILAR CALL SIGNS, SEVERAL MINS OF CONFUSION ENSUED BOTH IN THE AIR AND ON THE GND. WE WERE TOLD TO GO AROUND, THEN ENTERED A L DOWNWIND FOLLOWED BY CLRNC TO LAND ON RWY 17L. AFTER LNDG, I DISCUSSED THE PROB WITH A TWR SUPVR TO FIND OUT WHAT OCCURRED. DURING OUR APCH AND XING OVER TO RWY 17L, WE EXPERIENCED A TCASII RA, PROBABLY DUE TO OTHER COMPANY ACFT. THOUGHT IT IS UNCOMMON TO BE GIVEN A RWY CHANGE CLOSE IN AND ON TWR FREQ, IT IS VERY COMMON TO HAVE 1 OR 2 RWY CHANGES WHILE BEING VECTORED FOR A VISUAL.
