Narrative:

We were holding on J152 at miroy, as published with 15 mi legs. While outbound a flight attendant came up to the cockpit and the captain who was flying started conversing with him. I was doing fuel computations to determine how long we could hold. When I looked up we had flown to 18 DME on the non-holding side of jst. I quickly pointed this out to the captain who then made a turn back toward the holding pattern. Because of slant range mileage we were probably not that far out of the holding pattern. I asked the controller (ZOB) if there was a problem and he replied, no.
