Narrative:

Given a crossing restr at VOR at 5000 ft. Given restr late. First officer flying. Looking at wrong DME, believed we had 10 more mi to go. Approach had us level at 7000 ft from crossing and then continued our descent to 5000 ft. My DME was on boston. Did not notice first officer's DME. First officer was using good rate down. I heard first officer calculate rate needed and watched him start down. Had I calculated myself, I probably would have noticed he was using wrong DME.
