Narrative:

On taxi out of subsequent flight, air carrier X indicated he was involved in a bird strike. The aircraft was looked over by a mechanic, and the aircraft was flown in active service within 2 hours of the bird strike. ATC was not notified of the bird strike in a timely fashion. It is understood that the flight crew is busy at the time of the occurrence, however, due to the time of day (night, after sunset) and distance from field (4 mi) it is impossible for ATC to know of the occurrence without a PIREP. With the PIREP, we could have warned subsequent inbounds of birds in the area, allowing us to provide better service to the aircraft landing here at lindbergh field.

Title: SAN CTLR CONCERNED WITH LATE NOTIFICATION FOR BIRD STRIKE OF LNDG ACR 2 HRS AFTER THE INCIDENT.

Narrative: ON TAXI OUT OF SUBSEQUENT FLT, ACR X INDICATED HE WAS INVOLVED IN A BIRD STRIKE. THE ACFT WAS LOOKED OVER BY A MECH, AND THE ACFT WAS FLOWN IN ACTIVE SVC WITHIN 2 HRS OF THE BIRD STRIKE. ATC WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE BIRD STRIKE IN A TIMELY FASHION. IT IS UNDERSTOOD THAT THE FLC IS BUSY AT THE TIME OF THE OCCURRENCE, HOWEVER, DUE TO THE TIME OF DAY (NIGHT, AFTER SUNSET) AND DISTANCE FROM FIELD (4 MI) IT IS IMPOSSIBLE FOR ATC TO KNOW OF THE OCCURRENCE WITHOUT A PIREP. WITH THE PIREP, WE COULD HAVE WARNED SUBSEQUENT INBOUNDS OF BIRDS IN THE AREA, ALLOWING US TO PROVIDE BETTER SVC TO THE ACFT LNDG HERE AT LINDBERGH FIELD.
