Narrative:
On apr/xb/99, I worked a 10 hour shift after completing another 10 hour shift 4 hours 45 mins earlier on apr/xa/99 as a result of a shift trade I took part in with a fellow employee in order to receive a particular day off I needed for personal reasons. This was a violation of the FARS which states a dispatcher cannot be scheduled for a 10 hour shift without at least 8 hours rest between shifts. This was a last min shift trade so management was unable to catch it. By the time I realized what happened, there were only hours left before my shift was to begin. We were currently short-handed dispatchers due to a few calling in sick, so I took it upon myself to go through with the shift, violating the regulation. I have since been reprimanded by my superiors regarding this incident -- both verbally and in writing, and have been thoroughly aware of the serious nature of this event. You can be assured I am now well versed in this subject and a repeat performance will not recur.
