Narrative:

After completing just prior to starting checklist, communication was established with tug driver. Brakes were then released. First officer began to call for pushback clearance when agent returned jetbridge to aircraft and boarded 2 more passenger. Another cabin ready report was received. As first officer was in midst of getting pushback clearance, agent again returned jetbridge to aircraft to board 2 more passenger. Another cabin ready report was received. First officer said we were cleared to push. I told ground, brakes were released and cleared to push. I immediately realized brakes were parked and called 3 or 4 times to stop push. Tow bar broke and aircraft was damaged. Neither I nor copilot can remember when brakes were re-parked after initial brake release. I suspect I parked them while I was confirming they were released.
