Narrative:

After rav VOR, clearance was direct psb. Instead, we both (captain and first officer) read J64 psb. J64 does not go to psb and 60 mi west of rav the controller intervened directing us to psb. The aircraft was heavy and our concern was our airspeed as we approached FL350. There was some confusion with the chart and how we were cleared, but looking back at the filed route, it is obvious direct psb after rav. First officer grabbed the wrong radial and I, as captain, failed to back him up (I had the next radial in, psb J60 djb) so my HSI display was not a help.
