Narrative:

Part of our original release lax to ord (release 01) read: fmn J64 hlc sjc irk. During cockpit setup, release 02, printed on ACARS, required more fuel, which we had already added while at operations. However, we didn't notice a route change fmn J44 ALS J102 sln J96 irk. We received our ATC clearance by voice, no pre departure clearance available, with 'cleared as filed' covering the changed portion. After passing fmn about 80 NM east on J64, ZDV said we were showing north of course. We said we were on our flight planned routing. ZDV then cleared us direct to sln flight plan route. Accepting the new clearance and loading in the new clearance ended the incident. In the future, I will carefully scrutinize any dispatch release update to determine precisely the reason for it.

Title: FLC FAILS TO NOTICE CHANGE TO FILED RTE AND COMMITS NAV ERROR.

Narrative: PART OF OUR ORIGINAL RELEASE LAX TO ORD (RELEASE 01) READ: FMN J64 HLC SJC IRK. DURING COCKPIT SETUP, RELEASE 02, PRINTED ON ACARS, REQUIRED MORE FUEL, WHICH WE HAD ALREADY ADDED WHILE AT OPS. HOWEVER, WE DIDN'T NOTICE A RTE CHANGE FMN J44 ALS J102 SLN J96 IRK. WE RECEIVED OUR ATC CLRNC BY VOICE, NO PDC AVAILABLE, WITH 'CLRED AS FILED' COVERING THE CHANGED PORTION. AFTER PASSING FMN ABOUT 80 NM E ON J64, ZDV SAID WE WERE SHOWING N OF COURSE. WE SAID WE WERE ON OUR FLT PLANNED ROUTING. ZDV THEN CLRED US DIRECT TO SLN FLT PLAN RTE. ACCEPTING THE NEW CLRNC AND LOADING IN THE NEW CLRNC ENDED THE INCIDENT. IN THE FUTURE, I WILL CAREFULLY SCRUTINIZE ANY DISPATCH RELEASE UPDATE TO DETERMINE PRECISELY THE REASON FOR IT.
