Narrative:

I departed asn airport heading to gso. I received my clearance on the ground before I took off at asn. Once I was airborne I contacted birmingham approach. Then when I was told to contact atl they cleared me to 6000 ft. While I was in the climb atl had a rerte to assign me. I told them I was ready to copy and was still in the climb to 6000 ft. I copied my new clearance read it back and noticed I went through my assigned altitude by 600 ft. I immediately descended back to my assigned altitude of 6000 ft.
