Narrative:

I was the captain on MD80 ferry flight mex-dfw with no passenger or flight attendants on board. At gate in mex, completed all normal checklists and received clearance from mex ground control to push. Shortly after starting push, approximately 30 ft from gate, before engines started, APU quit causing loss of electrical power. I told the tow tractor driver to hold the push and I set the parking brake, turned emergency power switch on, APU switch off anticipating a restart attempt after APU wound down. Approximately 10 seconds after parking brake set with tow tractor still attached, catering truck struck left wing area just forward of the navigation lights. There was no movement of the aircraft from the time the brakes were parked until the aircraft was struck and later turned over to maintenance after the incident. Maintenance reported on the interphone no fuel leaking or damage requiring immediate assistance. After writing up APU and wing damage, turned aircraft over to maintenance. First officer and I deplaned via forward entry door stairs.

Title: CATERING TRUCK HIT WING OF MD80 AFTER STOPPING DURING PUSHBACK ON LIGHTED RAMP CAUSING DAMAGE TO THE L WING.

Narrative: I WAS THE CAPT ON MD80 FERRY FLT MEX-DFW WITH NO PAX OR FLT ATTENDANTS ON BOARD. AT GATE IN MEX, COMPLETED ALL NORMAL CHKLISTS AND RECEIVED CLRNC FROM MEX GND CTL TO PUSH. SHORTLY AFTER STARTING PUSH, APPROX 30 FT FROM GATE, BEFORE ENGS STARTED, APU QUIT CAUSING LOSS OF ELECTRICAL PWR. I TOLD THE TOW TRACTOR DRIVER TO HOLD THE PUSH AND I SET THE PARKING BRAKE, TURNED EMER PWR SWITCH ON, APU SWITCH OFF ANTICIPATING A RESTART ATTEMPT AFTER APU WOUND DOWN. APPROX 10 SECONDS AFTER PARKING BRAKE SET WITH TOW TRACTOR STILL ATTACHED, CATERING TRUCK STRUCK L WING AREA JUST FORWARD OF THE NAV LIGHTS. THERE WAS NO MOVEMENT OF THE ACFT FROM THE TIME THE BRAKES WERE PARKED UNTIL THE ACFT WAS STRUCK AND LATER TURNED OVER TO MAINT AFTER THE INCIDENT. MAINT RPTED ON THE INTERPHONE NO FUEL LEAKING OR DAMAGE REQUIRING IMMEDIATE ASSISTANCE. AFTER WRITING UP APU AND WING DAMAGE, TURNED ACFT OVER TO MAINT. FO AND I DEPLANED VIA FORWARD ENTRY DOOR STAIRS.
