Narrative:

On departure from dtw runway 21R at about 2500 ft, the left engine suddenly quit. No vibration or other indications that a problem was about to happen. Declared an emergency and returned to dtw runway 21R for uneventful, single engine landing. Single engine landing weight was 118000 pounds. Sink rate at touchdown was normal with a normal touchdown and no appreciable sideloads.
