Narrative:

We were assigned a descent to maintain an altitude below 10000 ft. We descended and slowed to 250 KIAS at 10000 ft and then to 200 KIAS as we neared our assigned altitude. At that point ARTCC queried our airspeed and told us to maintain 250 KIAS because that was the speed that had been assigned. Both the captain and I had no recollection of the '250 KIAS assigned.' I was handling the radios and never read back any assigned airspeed. We accelerated to 250 KIAS at that point. Obviously there was a breakdown in communication somewhere along the line.
