Narrative:

On short final to runway 36L dfw at approximately 1000 ft MSL, we received a TCASII TA for traffic. Traffic was seen at approximately 2 O'clock, 2 1/2 mi, at same altitude opposite direction. We were about 3-4 mi on final. We asked tower about traffic, but he was too busy to answer. We asked ground about the situation and they said it was most likely a traffic airplane. They usually use 134.9 for aircraft moving through class B airspace and if tower has time they will inform us about the traffic. This is an unsafe situation. We should always be told about traffic that is this close to us and they should be on the same frequency. This was a C152 or C172. I would like to know why another airplane is allowed to come so close to us in class B airspace without being on the same frequency or being told about the traffic.
