Narrative:

While descending into ord, new first officer was having difficulty in making crossing restr and during my intervention, I failed to switch altimeters over to local setting. The first officer still having difficulty the altimeters were never switched till ord approach asked our altitude as we leveled off 350 ft off assigned altitude. Nothing was mentioned by approach. We corrected immediately and no further events. Supplemental information from acn 429800: while descending into ord trying to make crossing restr late switch of altimeters to local qnh caused a descent below assigned altitude. Corrected immediately no conflict encountered. No comment by ord approach.

Narrative: WHILE DSNDING INTO ORD, NEW FO WAS HAVING DIFFICULTY IN MAKING XING RESTR AND DURING MY INTERVENTION, I FAILED TO SWITCH ALTIMETERS OVER TO LCL SETTING.
