Narrative:

Atl tower cleared us for takeoff while aircraft Y was still on takeoff roll. After rotation, we were only 2 1/2 mi in trail. ATC gave aircraft Y a left turn that crossed our track. TCASII RA at 5000 ft MSL to descend. Our rate of climb at the time was about 3000 FPM. I pulled throttles to idle and we leveled at 5500 ft. The flight attendants, alarmed by the sudden decrease in power, called the cockpit. The noise of the chime drowned out the TCASII aural and part of the ATC transmission. Closest separation was inside 2 mi and 500-600 ft.
