Narrative:

The aircraft was being vectored for a VFR approach to land on runway 19 at mkc. At time of bird strike we were on a heading of 090 degrees descending from 4000 ft MSL passing over mci and at approximately 3000 ft MSL we encountered a flock of snow geese. A loud 'bang' was heard as a bird hit the copilot's side window and streaked it with blood, etc. The right engine shut itself off because the engine inhaled a goose. The aircraft exhibited no control problems and a single engine landing was accomplished. Upon postflt inspection it was determined that the aircraft was hit by at least 8 birds. The wing leading edge was damaged severely on both sides. Airport officials from mci reported finding 5 snow geese carcasses on one of their runways. They also reported that the snow geese have been an ongoing problem in that there is a lake southeast of mci that is infested with snow geese. The damage to the aircraft is such that it may not be easy to repair at this time. A more detailed inspection will be needed to determine how we will proceed.

Title: SEVERE DAMAGE TO LEAR 35 DUE TO BIRD STRIKE.

Narrative: THE ACFT WAS BEING VECTORED FOR A VFR APCH TO LAND ON RWY 19 AT MKC. AT TIME OF BIRD STRIKE WE WERE ON A HDG OF 090 DEGS DSNDING FROM 4000 FT MSL PASSING OVER MCI AND AT APPROX 3000 FT MSL WE ENCOUNTERED A FLOCK OF SNOW GEESE. A LOUD 'BANG' WAS HEARD AS A BIRD HIT THE COPLT'S SIDE WINDOW AND STREAKED IT WITH BLOOD, ETC. THE R ENG SHUT ITSELF OFF BECAUSE THE ENG INHALED A GOOSE. THE ACFT EXHIBITED NO CTL PROBS AND A SINGLE ENG LNDG WAS ACCOMPLISHED. UPON POSTFLT INSPECTION IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE ACFT WAS HIT BY AT LEAST 8 BIRDS. THE WING LEADING EDGE WAS DAMAGED SEVERELY ON BOTH SIDES. ARPT OFFICIALS FROM MCI RPTED FINDING 5 SNOW GEESE CARCASSES ON ONE OF THEIR RWYS. THEY ALSO RPTED THAT THE SNOW GEESE HAVE BEEN AN ONGOING PROB IN THAT THERE IS A LAKE SE OF MCI THAT IS INFESTED WITH SNOW GEESE. THE DAMAGE TO THE ACFT IS SUCH THAT IT MAY NOT BE EASY TO REPAIR AT THIS TIME. A MORE DETAILED INSPECTION WILL BE NEEDED TO DETERMINE HOW WE WILL PROCEED.
