Narrative:

Using RNAV cleared direct to kagle 20+ mi west of bowie VOR, bowie 4 arrival dallas. Selected kagle in RNAV, updated it (RNAV). RNAV missed kagle east about 6 mi. Approach vectored us back to approach. RNAV paralleled approach (as best as we could determine). No malfunction warning was displayed. ATC said no problem, but caused him additional work. Supplemental information from acn 429226: that's why the PNF is required to back up the PF with raw data. My failure to notice the aircraft's failure to join the arrival was due to heavy communication volume with ATC and my attention outside looking for other traffic!

Title: A B737 AIRLINE FLC GOT OFF COURSE PERFORMING A STAR. THE ACFT PARALLELED THE INTENDED COURSE AND THE RADAR CTLR HAD TO ADJUST THE SPACING ON SEVERAL ACFT TO ACCOMMODATE THIS ERROR.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 429226: THAT'S WHY THE PNF IS REQUIRED TO BACK UP THE PF WITH RAW DATA. MY FAILURE TO NOTICE THE ACFT'S FAILURE TO JOIN THE ARR WAS DUE TO HVY COM VOLUME WITH ATC AND MY ATTN OUTSIDE LOOKING FOR OTHER TFC!
