First officer of a B737-300 started descending on STAR arrival by mistake since the captain had responded to the wrong call sign and set the new altitude in the FMC MCP. ARTCC radar controller caught their mistakes and reclred them to an altitude through which they had just descended.

Narrative:
First officer was flying aircraft. FL310 was set in MCP. Crossing restr to cross lukes intersection at FL240 was on legs page of FMC per unarm/arrival to clt. We hit moderate turbulence. First officer got on PA to tell passenger to be seated. While he was on PA I mistakenly thought we had been cleared to cross lukes intersection at FL240. I set in FL240 in MCP and hit 1000 FPM vertical speed descent. When first officer got off PA he asked if we were cleared to FL240. I said yes. ZTL said say assigned altitude. I said lukes at FL240. ZTL said negative maintain FL290. We had descended to FL285 and climbed to FL290.
