Narrative:

Departed great falls at approximately XA00. 4200 pounds cargo, no hazardous cargo. WX was snow, ice. Runway was icy and braking action was good to fair. On climb out at approximately 2000 ft AGL, #6 cargo smoke selector light illuminated. We leveled off, asked for a turn toward the field and declared an emergency. At this time the light went out. No other evidence of smoke or fire was found on board. We had been deiced twice prior to takeoff and we suspected that this was the cause for the light. Our takeoff alternate was billings, mt. We decided to terminate the emergency, press on and continue to monitor while flying toward billings (our route of flight to mem). Overhead billings, there was still no evidence of any problems, so we decided to press on to memphis. The WX and runway conditions at gtf, our having no hazmat and little cargo, and the large deice were all factors in our decision to press on toward billings, monitor the situation and terminate the emergency. Supplemental information from acn 428410: as we were getting started on our emergency procedures the warning light went away. I checked cargo area and there was no smoke or fumes. Given the fact that the back was empty, the aircraft was deiced twice prior to our takeoff and the WX condition in gtf was deteriorating. As a crew, we have decided that it was a false alarm and the option to continue the flight and keep billings in mind for diversion was the best choice. We canceled our emergency and continued to our original destination (memphis, tn) without any further indications.

Title: A 3 ENG FREIGHTER FLC DECLARED AN EMER WHEN THE #6 SMOKE DETECTOR LIGHT ILLUMINATED SHORTLY AFTER TKOF. THE LIGHT WENT OFF AS THE EMER WAS DECLARED AND THE CREW THEN DECIDED TO CONTINUE TO THEIR DEST.

Narrative: DEPARTED GREAT FALLS AT APPROX XA00. 4200 LBS CARGO, NO HAZARDOUS CARGO. WX WAS SNOW, ICE. RWY WAS ICY AND BRAKING ACTION WAS GOOD TO FAIR. ON CLBOUT AT APPROX 2000 FT AGL, #6 CARGO SMOKE SELECTOR LIGHT ILLUMINATED. WE LEVELED OFF, ASKED FOR A TURN TOWARD THE FIELD AND DECLARED AN EMER. AT THIS TIME THE LIGHT WENT OUT. NO OTHER EVIDENCE OF SMOKE OR FIRE WAS FOUND ON BOARD. WE HAD BEEN DEICED TWICE PRIOR TO TKOF AND WE SUSPECTED THAT THIS WAS THE CAUSE FOR THE LIGHT. OUR TKOF ALTERNATE WAS BILLINGS, MT. WE DECIDED TO TERMINATE THE EMER, PRESS ON AND CONTINUE TO MONITOR WHILE FLYING TOWARD BILLINGS (OUR RTE OF FLT TO MEM). OVERHEAD BILLINGS, THERE WAS STILL NO EVIDENCE OF ANY PROBS, SO WE DECIDED TO PRESS ON TO MEMPHIS. THE WX AND RWY CONDITIONS AT GTF, OUR HAVING NO HAZMAT AND LITTLE CARGO, AND THE LARGE DEICE WERE ALL FACTORS IN OUR DECISION TO PRESS ON TOWARD BILLINGS, MONITOR THE SIT AND TERMINATE THE EMER. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 428410: AS WE WERE GETTING STARTED ON OUR EMER PROCS THE WARNING LIGHT WENT AWAY. I CHKED CARGO AREA AND THERE WAS NO SMOKE OR FUMES. GIVEN THE FACT THAT THE BACK WAS EMPTY, THE ACFT WAS DEICED TWICE PRIOR TO OUR TKOF AND THE WX CONDITION IN GTF WAS DETERIORATING. AS A CREW, WE HAVE DECIDED THAT IT WAS A FALSE ALARM AND THE OPTION TO CONTINUE THE FLT AND KEEP BILLINGS IN MIND FOR DIVERSION WAS THE BEST CHOICE. WE CANCELED OUR EMER AND CONTINUED TO OUR ORIGINAL DEST (MEMPHIS, TN) WITHOUT ANY FURTHER INDICATIONS.
