Narrative:

Aircraft was released to line service for our flight ord-dfw. The right engine had been changed due to a windshear encounter previously. The right engine had been signed off by maintenance as changed and that the left engine had stayed within limits and was approved for service. After taxiing out for takeoff, the right fuel heat gauge was noted pegged high, and we could not determine if the valve was actually working. No oil temperature rise although blue light cycled normally. Contacting maintenance, we returned to the gate where our maintenance men determined valve was operating normally and secured a placard for the instrument. Just after this we were informed that aircraft was being taken OTS due to the left engine being out of limits from the windshear event. We were told that maintenance had just reviewed the information and found the out of tolerance information. I would like to know what procedures will be implemented so that another aircraft is not prematurely released to the line.

Title: MD80-S FLC RETURNS TO POINT OF DEP WITH OIL PRESSURE INDICATION PROB ON STARTUP AT ORD.

Narrative: ACFT WAS RELEASED TO LINE SVC FOR OUR FLT ORD-DFW. THE R ENG HAD BEEN CHANGED DUE TO A WINDSHEAR ENCOUNTER PREVIOUSLY. THE R ENG HAD BEEN SIGNED OFF BY MAINT AS CHANGED AND THAT THE L ENG HAD STAYED WITHIN LIMITS AND WAS APPROVED FOR SVC. AFTER TAXIING OUT FOR TKOF, THE R FUEL HEAT GAUGE WAS NOTED PEGGED HIGH, AND WE COULD NOT DETERMINE IF THE VALVE WAS ACTUALLY WORKING. NO OIL TEMP RISE ALTHOUGH BLUE LIGHT CYCLED NORMALLY. CONTACTING MAINT, WE RETURNED TO THE GATE WHERE OUR MAINT MEN DETERMINED VALVE WAS OPERATING NORMALLY AND SECURED A PLACARD FOR THE INST. JUST AFTER THIS WE WERE INFORMED THAT ACFT WAS BEING TAKEN OTS DUE TO THE L ENG BEING OUT OF LIMITS FROM THE WINDSHEAR EVENT. WE WERE TOLD THAT MAINT HAD JUST REVIEWED THE INFO AND FOUND THE OUT OF TOLERANCE INFO. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHAT PROCS WILL BE IMPLEMENTED SO THAT ANOTHER ACFT IS NOT PREMATURELY RELEASED TO THE LINE.
