Narrative:

I was distraction and didn't call for the descent checklist. As a result, the local altimeter was not set when we first leveled off at pvd. The first officer didn't notice it either and the so was busy getting the ATIS for bos. We reset the altimeter when we discovered our mistake and there was no conflict. Perhaps ACARS, as in the newer aircraft, would have helped free up the so's time.
