Narrative:

Location: bwz 290 degree radial 30 NM. As captain and PF, assigned to climb to 17000 ft. I was being vectored and anticipating intercepting the flight plan routing. I missed the 1000 ft callout prior to leveling off and heard the altitude alert go off at 17300 ft. I immediately corrected to 17000 ft. I told center that I had overshot the altitude and asked if it created any problem. He said no and something to effect that he was about to give me a climb, anyway. I know not to be distracted during the 1000 ft prior to leveloff and it was reinforced today. In the future I will be more careful. It was entirely my responsibility.
