Narrative:

Location: runway 14R ord. At approximately 150 KTS, flap takeoff confign warning flashed on, then off, then came back on steady. Captain initiated abort with peak speed being 160 KTS. V1 was 164 KTS. Aircraft decelerated normally and we exited runway 14R at the runway 27L intersection. Taxied back to the gate without incident. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: this aircraft was loaded heavily for a flight from ord to lhr. The flight crew received a light indicating the flaps were not in a takeoff position. Captain made a quick decision to abort the takeoff. Flight crew noted the airspeed to be 160 KIAS when the abort procedure was applied. V1 was calculated at 164 KTS. The first officer had not called out the V1 speed. Takeoff was started at runway 14R. When the abort started, the captain reversed the engines and the rejected takeoff feature of the autobrakes quickly applied pressure. The deceleration was smooth with the aircraft always maintaining centerline. The aircraft was slowed down enough that the flight turned from runway 14R at runway 27L. The flight crew taxied to the air carrier parking gate and deplaned all flight crew and passenger. Later, several tires of the aircraft deflated when the tire fuse plugs melted. Flight crew departed in another aircraft.

Title: A B767-300 ABORTS TKOF AT 160 KIAS IN ORD DUE TO FLAP TKOF CONFIGN WARNING.

Narrative: LOCATION: RWY 14R ORD. AT APPROX 150 KTS, FLAP TKOF CONFIGN WARNING FLASHED ON, THEN OFF, THEN CAME BACK ON STEADY. CAPT INITIATED ABORT WITH PEAK SPD BEING 160 KTS. V1 WAS 164 KTS. ACFT DECELERATED NORMALLY AND WE EXITED RWY 14R AT THE RWY 27L INTXN. TAXIED BACK TO THE GATE WITHOUT INCIDENT. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: THIS ACFT WAS LOADED HEAVILY FOR A FLT FROM ORD TO LHR. THE FLC RECEIVED A LIGHT INDICATING THE FLAPS WERE NOT IN A TKOF POS. CAPT MADE A QUICK DECISION TO ABORT THE TKOF. FLC NOTED THE AIRSPD TO BE 160 KIAS WHEN THE ABORT PROC WAS APPLIED. V1 WAS CALCULATED AT 164 KTS. THE FO HAD NOT CALLED OUT THE V1 SPD. TKOF WAS STARTED AT RWY 14R. WHEN THE ABORT STARTED, THE CAPT REVERSED THE ENGS AND THE REJECTED TKOF FEATURE OF THE AUTOBRAKES QUICKLY APPLIED PRESSURE. THE DECELERATION WAS SMOOTH WITH THE ACFT ALWAYS MAINTAINING CTRLINE. THE ACFT WAS SLOWED DOWN ENOUGH THAT THE FLT TURNED FROM RWY 14R AT RWY 27L. THE FLC TAXIED TO THE ACR PARKING GATE AND DEPLANED ALL FLC AND PAX. LATER, SEVERAL TIRES OF THE ACFT DEFLATED WHEN THE TIRE FUSE PLUGS MELTED. FLC DEPARTED IN ANOTHER ACFT.
