Narrative:

25 mi from jfk during climb at around 7000 ft, fumes were noticed in the cockpit. Flight attendants began calling to report smoke and fumes in the cabin. Smoke detectors began to chime. I declared an emergency and asked for radar vectors to ILS runway 4L. All appropriate checklists were accomplished and an uneventful landing was completed. Landing weight was 304000 pounds.

Narrative: 25 MI FROM JFK DURING CLB AT AROUND 7000 FT, FUMES WERE NOTICED IN THE COCKPIT. FLT ATTENDANTS BEGAN CALLING TO RPT SMOKE AND FUMES IN THE CABIN. SMOKE DETECTORS BEGAN TO CHIME.
