Narrative:

While descending through 7500 ft to 7000 ft on vectors in IMC to psp, got GPWS terrain warning. Initiated maximum climb, warning stopped through approximately 8500 ft. Remainder of approach uneventful. Controller said MVA in that area was 6500 ft and that air carrier aircraft always get the warning there. If so, descent clearance should be delayed to avoid the possible traffic conflict as a result of sudden climb.
