Narrative:

Nose gear collapsed following a normal approach and touchdown. Aircraft pulled left and subsequently departed the left side of runway 21L, coming to rest on a 270 degree heading, approximately 1200 ft from the approach end/threshold. FAA classified the event as an incident. No injuries and only moderate damage to aircraft. Ice covered runway contributed to runway departure given the crosswind conditions. On scene mechanic examination showed broken push rod. This series baron has down lock indicator on gear transmission box. All normal indications on down and locked were received. Another mechanic speculated that runway contamination at departure airport may have fouled the scissors and prevented them from going over-center during extension.
