Narrative:

Following main cabin beverage service, the purser informed crew of notice from captain that we had lost power of/in the APU. Since it is not recommended to proceed overwater without the APU in operation, the flight diverted to jfk to change equipment. Once changeover was complete, flight proceeded without incident.
