Narrative:

Informed after takeoff by purser that rubber debris was noticed during our taxi and takeoff. Cockpit could not know for sure, so plans were made to have crash fire rescue equipment standing by during our landing in ewr. We did not inform passenger, but made our own safety preparations for the landing. All was uneventful, however, we did have a blown tire. Passenger were informed by the cockpit after landing about the fire engines alongside the aircraft. We were towed to the gate. The situation never became an extremely stressful matter. All ended well.
