Narrative:

After engine start at pap, first officer called for taxi. I heard ok cleared to go have a nice day, and first officer said we were cleared to go. So we taxied to the runway but prior to taxiing out on runway 'at pap, we taxi back down runway into position.' that clearance I heard just didn't make sense, so I looked at first officer's radio and he was on company frequency -- not switched over to pap ground. I stopped aircraft, called ground and got required clearance. This was third leg of long day and early get up. Time had taken its toll - it was our going home leg. Supplemental information from acn 424111: thought we were cleared, but talked to operations, not tower.
