Narrative:

Descending into smf we were cleared to descend to 6000 ft. Our TCASII showed an aircraft at our 12 O'clock, opposite direction, at 9500 ft. Descending through 11000 ft, we notified ATC of the aircraft and requested to level off at 10000 ft. ATC notified us of the aircraft and told us to maintain 10000 ft. After leveling off at 10000 ft, we still didn't have the 12 O'clock traffic in sight. We received an RA from the TCASII and climbed to 10300 ft. ATC notified us we were off altitude. We replied the RA from the TCASII is the reason for the altitude deviation. We never had the aircraft in sight.

Title: FLC OF AN ATX MDT JET CLBED IN RESPONSE TO A TCASII RA OF TFC FOR WHICH APCH CTLR HAD JUST GIVEN A LEVELOFF.

Narrative: DSNDING INTO SMF WE WERE CLRED TO DSND TO 6000 FT. OUR TCASII SHOWED AN ACFT AT OUR 12 O'CLOCK, OPPOSITE DIRECTION, AT 9500 FT. DSNDING THROUGH 11000 FT, WE NOTIFIED ATC OF THE ACFT AND REQUESTED TO LEVEL OFF AT 10000 FT. ATC NOTIFIED US OF THE ACFT AND TOLD US TO MAINTAIN 10000 FT. AFTER LEVELING OFF AT 10000 FT, WE STILL DIDN'T HAVE THE 12 O'CLOCK TFC IN SIGHT. WE RECEIVED AN RA FROM THE TCASII AND CLBED TO 10300 FT. ATC NOTIFIED US WE WERE OFF ALT. WE REPLIED THE RA FROM THE TCASII IS THE REASON FOR THE ALTDEV. WE NEVER HAD THE ACFT IN SIGHT.
