Narrative:

Inbound crew wrote up 2 items: cabin inner window and trim loose and seat upholstery loose. About 10 mins prior to push, we called operations to ask about the maintenance signoff. They said maintenance technician said it could wait until dfw. Checked MEL section 1, P.6, paragraph yy, which states: examples of PIREPS not requiring a balancing entry include items that have been flight crew placarded -- information to maintenance entries -- obvious non airworthiness items such as loose or missing cockpit trim, cabin and convenience items of a non airworthiness nature. We felt these 2 write-ups fell into this group, and departed without maintenance signoff. Upon landing at dfw, mechanic there stated this was not legal and had to report the incident. If this is true, the MEL is misleading on this issue and the operations personnel at ZZZ need to be advised.
