Narrative:

Landing without landing clearance. I was the PF and on a visual approach to runway 11L at tus. After we were cleared for the approach, we were given a tower frequency and then given a second tower frequency. We were close in and configuring for landing and never called the tower. No other traffic was nearby and ground control did not say anything to us. Called the tower on the telephone and he said no problem. Guess the key to this is not to get too loaded down and take the time to ensure you have a landing clearance. I like to use the 1000 ft check when I'm the PNF. Now I will make sure we have a landing clearance when I'm the PF as well. Supplemental information from acn 422991: as PNF, landed at tucson without tower clearance in VMC on clear runway. Distractions included 3 arrival frequency changes, 2 tower frequency changes, high terrain and a GS warning. Tower stated after landing no harm no foul, but once again I think we need to put the clearance space back into the mechanical checklist. I don't need a checklist to tell me the gear runs on high hydraulic pressure.

Title: MD80 CREW LANDED WITHOUT LNDG CLRNC.

Narrative: LNDG WITHOUT LNDG CLRNC. I WAS THE PF AND ON A VISUAL APCH TO RWY 11L AT TUS. AFTER WE WERE CLRED FOR THE APCH, WE WERE GIVEN A TWR FREQ AND THEN GIVEN A SECOND TWR FREQ. WE WERE CLOSE IN AND CONFIGURING FOR LNDG AND NEVER CALLED THE TWR. NO OTHER TFC WAS NEARBY AND GND CTL DID NOT SAY ANYTHING TO US. CALLED THE TWR ON THE TELEPHONE AND HE SAID NO PROB. GUESS THE KEY TO THIS IS NOT TO GET TOO LOADED DOWN AND TAKE THE TIME TO ENSURE YOU HAVE A LNDG CLRNC. I LIKE TO USE THE 1000 FT CHK WHEN I'M THE PNF. NOW I WILL MAKE SURE WE HAVE A LNDG CLRNC WHEN I'M THE PF AS WELL. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 422991: AS PNF, LANDED AT TUCSON WITHOUT TWR CLRNC IN VMC ON CLR RWY. DISTRACTIONS INCLUDED 3 ARR FREQ CHANGES, 2 TWR FREQ CHANGES, HIGH TERRAIN AND A GS WARNING. TWR STATED AFTER LNDG NO HARM NO FOUL, BUT ONCE AGAIN I THINK WE NEED TO PUT THE CLRNC SPACE BACK INTO THE MECHANICAL CHKLIST. I DON'T NEED A CHKLIST TO TELL ME THE GEAR RUNS ON HIGH HYD PRESSURE.
