Narrative:

I was taking off for the first time after a serious problem on my last flight 3 days earlier. I was still upset at the seriousness of what happened on my prior flight. I was cleared to iad via the laxx 3 departure. This calls for a turn from runway heading to 220 degrees at the smo 160 degree radial. I was climbing out and missed the turn due to preoccupation. The controller gave us a turn to 160 degrees. We made the turn and I don't think we came close to anyone. I got a grip and then told the captain I missed the turn. He thought everything was ok.
