Narrative:

On takeoff the left main landing gear red unsafe lights on both the front and so's panels remained illuminated with the gear handle up. The 'red gear light(south) illuminated (both panels) with handle up' checklist was executed with no change of indication (red lights continued to be illuminated on both panels). Company was contacted via ACARS. They confirmed to us that with our possible confign we did not have sufficient fuel to continue to destination. An emergency was declared, approximately 27000 pounds of fuel was dumped and we diverted into rjaa (tokyo narita) without further incident. Maintenance informed us that they adjusted sensors for the landing gear indicating system. The aircraft had recently come out of a 'D' check in singapore. We flew the aircraft to panc later that day with all indications normal.
