Narrative:

In descent for lax 15-20 NM east of smo, cleared to descend from 12000 ft to 7000 ft on vectors to smo for approach to runway 7L at lax. Did not slow to 250 KTS when descending through 10000 ft. Passing 7500 ft, noticed airspeed of 315 KTS. Then slowed to 250 KTS prior to smo. Uneventful approach and landing followed. Supplemental information from acn 421481: had just changed descent modes on autoplt. Went from VNAV to flight level change. Did not reset required reduced airspeed to 250 KTS. Caused by lack of attention to required inputs, early morning, possible fatigue.
