Narrative:

While being vectored for an ILS approach to runway 35C at dfw, and while configuring for landing, leading edge slat disagreement message appeared on the EICAS screen while extending flaps to 1 degree. I confirmed the asymmetry and declared an emergency with dfw tower. Requested maneuvering airspace, gave the aircraft to the first officer, and proceeded to accomplish the checklist procedures for flap asymmetry in the operating manual. After finishing the checklist, landed with flaps 20 degrees, and upon arrival, proceeded to the gate for maintenance action. Review of the logbook resulted in determining that this was a repeat write-up on this aircraft.
