Narrative:

A young woman was in the lavatory smoking while we were still at the gate waiting for ground crew to push back. Another flight attendant smelled the smoke and knocked on the door and told the woman to put out the cigarette. She came out and went back to her seat in main cabin. Apparently, at this time she also took an open bottle of champagne that was on the counter in the business class galley, and took it back to her seat. We had about another 45 min delay after this while the captain was notified and while we waited for agents to come take her off the aircraft, although she was not aware of what actions were being taken. After she was taken off the aircraft and we had taken off, another flight attendant found the open champagne bottle in her seat after the passenger seated behind the woman brought it to our attention that he had seen her leaning down and drinking out of it while we were delayed at the gate. End result: passenger caught smoking was taken off the aircraft by agents before we left jfk. Supplemental information from acn 418411: the captain made the decision to have passenger removed. An agent and 2 security officers boarded and at first she denied to them she had been smoking but finally admitted it, saying she is a very nervous flyer. On the jetbridge she became very vocal to the agent with very foul language. I really feel the smoke alarms need to be more sensitive to cigarette smoking.

Narrative: A YOUNG WOMAN WAS IN THE LAVATORY SMOKING WHILE WE WERE STILL AT THE GATE WAITING FOR GND CREW TO PUSH BACK. ANOTHER FLT ATTENDANT SMELLED THE SMOKE AND KNOCKED ON THE DOOR AND TOLD THE WOMAN TO PUT OUT THE CIGARETTE. WE HAD ABOUT ANOTHER 45 MIN DELAY AFTER THIS WHILE THE CAPT WAS NOTIFIED AND WHILE WE WAITED FOR AGENTS TO COME TAKE HER OFF THE ACFT, ALTHOUGH SHE WAS NOT AWARE OF WHAT ACTIONS WERE BEING TAKEN. AFTER SHE WAS TAKEN OFF THE ACFT AND WE HAD TAKEN OFF, ANOTHER FLT ATTENDANT FOUND THE OPEN CHAMPAGNE BOTTLE IN HER SEAT AFTER THE PAX SEATED BEHIND THE WOMAN BROUGHT IT TO OUR ATTN THAT HE HAD SEEN HER LEANING DOWN AND DRINKING OUT OF IT WHILE WE WERE DELAYED AT THE GATE. END RESULT: PAX CAUGHT SMOKING WAS TAKEN OFF THE ACFT BY AGENTS BEFORE WE LEFT JFK. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 418411: THE CAPT MADE THE DECISION TO HAVE PAX REMOVED.
