Narrative:

As I taxied to the hold short line midfield down the runway, I called into the blind on unicom to advise my intentions. I stopped, looked left and right, then taxied across the hold short line onto the runway. My intention was to cross the runway. As the first 1/3 of my plane was on the runway, I glanced left and right again and saw an aircraft rapidly approaching me from the right. I immediately applied brakes, and the plane went in front of me, right to left. I called him on the radio and asked him if he heard me call my intention to taxi midfield across the runway. His response was something to the effect, 'I was busy landing and didn't pay attention.' the fact is, we both broke the chain of safety. In the future, I will stop for 20 seconds or so to look for any apparent motion at either end of the runway. I suspect this aircraft must have just been touching down when I looked, putting him below the horizon. His airplane looked very small (lancair 320?) and was painted brown. He didn't have any lights on. The lancair pilot said he called base, but not final. I probably would have heard him call final. Watch out at uncontrolled airports!

Title: PA31 PLT AT VIS CTAF ANNOUNCED INTENTION TO CROSS THE RWY. AS THE PLT STARTED TO ENTER THE RWY, HE LOOKED AGAIN AND SAW ACFT ABOUT TO LAND.

Narrative: AS I TAXIED TO THE HOLD SHORT LINE MIDFIELD DOWN THE RWY, I CALLED INTO THE BLIND ON UNICOM TO ADVISE MY INTENTIONS. I STOPPED, LOOKED L AND R, THEN TAXIED ACROSS THE HOLD SHORT LINE ONTO THE RWY. MY INTENTION WAS TO CROSS THE RWY. AS THE FIRST 1/3 OF MY PLANE WAS ON THE RWY, I GLANCED L AND R AGAIN AND SAW AN ACFT RAPIDLY APCHING ME FROM THE R. I IMMEDIATELY APPLIED BRAKES, AND THE PLANE WENT IN FRONT OF ME, R TO L. I CALLED HIM ON THE RADIO AND ASKED HIM IF HE HEARD ME CALL MY INTENTION TO TAXI MIDFIELD ACROSS THE RWY. HIS RESPONSE WAS SOMETHING TO THE EFFECT, 'I WAS BUSY LNDG AND DIDN'T PAY ATTN.' THE FACT IS, WE BOTH BROKE THE CHAIN OF SAFETY. IN THE FUTURE, I WILL STOP FOR 20 SECONDS OR SO TO LOOK FOR ANY APPARENT MOTION AT EITHER END OF THE RWY. I SUSPECT THIS ACFT MUST HAVE JUST BEEN TOUCHING DOWN WHEN I LOOKED, PUTTING HIM BELOW THE HORIZON. HIS AIRPLANE LOOKED VERY SMALL (LANCAIR 320?) AND WAS PAINTED BROWN. HE DIDN'T HAVE ANY LIGHTS ON. THE LANCAIR PLT SAID HE CALLED BASE, BUT NOT FINAL. I PROBABLY WOULD HAVE HEARD HIM CALL FINAL. WATCH OUT AT UNCTLED ARPTS!
