Narrative:

The problem arose when dispatched to aniak, ak, as a destination. The approach (ILS DME runway 10) requires an ADF for the missed approach. The aircraft, a B727, is equipped with 1 ADF. A letter was issued by company officials stating the FAA had approved a missed approach procedure in case of a failure of the ADF receiver. After making the trip, we realized the letter was not signed by the FAA, leaving some doubt about the legality of the letter. Supplemental information from acn 414750: company produced letter from director of operations stating that he had talked to FAA and they approved procedure. Company claims the flight was legal, so captain elected to go. If director of operations is wrong, the flight would be illegal.
