Narrative:

On aug/xa/98 I was #3 flight attendant working flight ord-bos. During the beverage service in main cabin, the lights on the aircraft went on and off twice. Moments later, the #1 flight attendant was called to cockpit and informed we had lost an engine, and prepare the cabin for immediate landing, diverting to alb. #1 flight attendant asked if there was need to brief passenger for emergency landing and captain informed #1 flight attendant he would keep him informed. Captain proceeded with normal landing into alb airport. We did have a normal approach as well as landing. Both #1 flight attendant and myself had total confidence as to what to do in case of an emergency, since we had only graduated from training weeks before. As we were parked at the gate, the lights again went totally black for about 1 min, maybe less. The passenger were completely calm and complied with all instructions, including deplaning from aft tailcone airstairs. The first officer was at bottom of airstairs directing passenger to another aircraft across the tarmac to another gate, which the passenger also boarded the second aircraft from the aft airstairs. Flight attendants #2 and #4 had exited first to board the second aircraft before passenger. Flight attendants #1, #3, and myself boarded as soon as all passenger deplaned. We boarded second aircraft from jetbridge to board from forward galley area and first class cabin. Boarding was long, but uneventful. Most passenger were tired but complacent. Our normal landing and deplaning in boston was organized and uneventful, and most all passenger thanked us personally for our professionalism. Supplemental information from acn 412660: gate agent was on and told passenger ahead of time we would deplane out of tailcone stairs.
