Narrative:

At mdw we were told to taxi to runway 31C via taxiway P and taxiway G, cross runway 31R. I had never been to mdw before, so I had my 10-9 page out. As the captain started the taxi, we saw taxiway P and followed it across the runway. Ground told us we were going the wrong direction. Instead of following taxiway P south from the ramp, we had turned on taxiway P, north and crossed runway 22L. I believe I would have caught the mistake sooner if I would have been looking outside the window and at the heading indicator instead of having my nose buried in the 10-9 page. I also didn't notice any signs at taxiway P telling us which runway we were approaching.

Title: FLC TAXIED WRONG DIRECTION ON ASSIGNED TXWY AND CROSSED A RWY BEFORE BEING CONTACTED BY GND CTLR AND REDIRECTED TO DESIRED RWY.

Narrative: AT MDW WE WERE TOLD TO TAXI TO RWY 31C VIA TXWY P AND TXWY G, CROSS RWY 31R. I HAD NEVER BEEN TO MDW BEFORE, SO I HAD MY 10-9 PAGE OUT. AS THE CAPT STARTED THE TAXI, WE SAW TXWY P AND FOLLOWED IT ACROSS THE RWY. GND TOLD US WE WERE GOING THE WRONG DIRECTION. INSTEAD OF FOLLOWING TXWY P S FROM THE RAMP, WE HAD TURNED ON TXWY P, N AND CROSSED RWY 22L. I BELIEVE I WOULD HAVE CAUGHT THE MISTAKE SOONER IF I WOULD HAVE BEEN LOOKING OUTSIDE THE WINDOW AND AT THE HDG INDICATOR INSTEAD OF HAVING MY NOSE BURIED IN THE 10-9 PAGE. I ALSO DIDN'T NOTICE ANY SIGNS AT TXWY P TELLING US WHICH RWY WE WERE APCHING.
