Narrative:

During a normal service check of a DC10 aircraft, the #2 hydraulic accumulator was found to be leaking internally requiring replacement. This unit is in the left main landing gear well and accessing it requires lowering the fuselage mounted landing gear door. The accumulator was replaced and I proceeded to resvc the system fluid. I understood my lead mechanic to advise servicing with the system pressurized. In order to gain access to the service point, also in the left gear well, I climbed into the wheel well above the now open door with pressure on the hydraulic system and no downlock on the door actuator. This was a very dangerous act and in doing so put myself at risk of injury or death if the door had closed for any reason.
