Narrative:

Just after turning northeast (at 7500 ft) over jfk to 060 degrees to hvn, I saw a large company airliner (may have been air carrier Y) out of the corner of my eye, lower than I was, coming from left to right. Controller called traffic at same time. Airliner pilot said it was a near miss and he was filing a near miss report. His TCASII showed 300 ft. My perception was that it was close. The airliner was turning left in front of me at an altitude about 7200 ft. I thought he was about 1/2 mi in front of me when I first saw him.
