Narrative:

Was issued a departure clearance to depart VOR to intercept a victor airway. This would not enter into our IFR certified GPS as per the clearance. The GPS is our main navigation in this aircraft. I wound up following the GPS instead of the clearance which specified a heading/VOR track. Was queried by ATC and realized the deviation. Another factor was that my right seat pilot had the clearance written down, but was involved with eating lunch at the time.
