Narrative:

My aircraft was cleared for ILS approach, and assigned 170 KTS to the marker, then switched to tower. We were not informed of traffic, but saw a B727 visually and on TCASII 3 mi ahead. We appeared to be gaining on it so I advised the tower we would slow for the traffic. A few mins later we were queried by the final monitor as to why we were not at the assigned speed.

Title: CAPT OF A CANADAIR REGIONAL JET, CL65, SLOWED FROM ASSIGNED SPD DURING APCH, SINCE IT APPEARED THAT THEY WOULD OVERTAKE A B727 ON FINAL AHEAD OF THEM AS INDICATED ON TCASII AND VISUAL SIGHTING. HOWEVER, THE FINAL CTLR QUESTIONED THEM AS TO WHY THEY WERE NOT AT ASSIGNED SPD. CAUSING THEM TO BELIEVE THAT THEY WERE NOT COMPLYING WITH THEIR CLRNC.
