Narrative:

Indicator removed from aircraft xyz for installation on aircraft abc, due to light inoperative on indicator. New indicator for aircraft xyz was to arrive prior to departure of aircraft xyz. Part did not arrive. I installed indicator with defective light on aircraft xyz, signed the logbook as installed, and then made a deferred entry placarding indicator light inoperative. I did this under the assumption that the part was ok for service as long as I addressed the problem with the light. After the departure of the aircraft, I was told different and proceeded to fill this event form.
