Narrative:

PA28-140 87 degrees, 63% r-hand fuel and passenger 600 pounds. Last training flight before private pilot chkride. Terrain rises south of 5f2. Student performed short field procedure. Once airborne, could not establish rate of climb equal to terrain. I, as CFI, took control of aircraft. I flew between hills, unable to get sufficient altitude to go over. I have flown this aircraft heavier, in hotter WX, and have been able to clear terrain. This day the performance of aircraft was less than usual but this could not be determined until we were airborne.

Narrative: PA28-140 87 DEGS, 63% R-HAND FUEL AND PAX 600 LBS. LAST TRAINING FLT BEFORE PVT PLT CHKRIDE. TERRAIN RISES S OF 5F2. STUDENT PERFORMED SHORT FIELD PROC. ONCE AIRBORNE, COULD NOT ESTABLISH RATE OF CLB EQUAL TO TERRAIN. I, AS CFI, TOOK CTL OF ACFT. I FLEW BTWN HILLS, UNABLE TO GET SUFFICIENT ALT TO GO OVER. I HAVE FLOWN THIS ACFT HEAVIER, IN HOTTER WX, AND HAVE BEEN ABLE TO CLR TERRAIN. THIS DAY THE PERFORMANCE OF ACFT WAS LESS THAN USUAL BUT THIS COULD NOT BE DETERMINED UNTIL WE WERE AIRBORNE.
