Narrative:

After taxiing the length of bolchitna lake from the southeast end to the northwest end, I turned around to take off. Called on CTAF 122.9 my intention to take off to the southeast on bolchitna lake. I had heard someone call that they were step taxiing out of the lagoon with a step turn to take off to the southeast. I thought he was on the yetna river, not the lake. The lake is hourglass shaped and as I approached the narrow section, aircraft on the step appeared in step turn, I aborted the takeoff -- more to avoid his wake than the aircraft. I still was not on the step. Had I continued the takeoff, there would still have been no collision, but we were too close for comfort.
