Narrative:

On jun/xa/98 at approximately XA00 hours, we were departing teb on runway 24. We had just landed, 30 mins sooner, discharged passenger, refueled, and contacted teb clearance. At this point, I would like to submit that teb had a special event in effect and the traffic and communications were heavy. We requested departure direct yardley VOR, then direct esn. We were told to taxi to runway 24. After about 20 mins, we were approved for takeoff. After taking off and into a climb, we finally were able to contact teb tower and requested a handoff, because he never gave us any information to this point. We thought this was strange under the class B airspace. After we contacted teb tower, he stated that we were in class B airspace, without a clearance. I responded, 'thank you.' he then said, 'turn to the west and descend to 2000 ft.' we attempted to do that, but even though turning westward to solberg VOR, we had to climb to 2000 ft, due to haze and safe obstacle clearance. We were not given any frequency to call. Contributing factors may have been the special event at teb. We assumed, after clearance, to proceed to yardley at climb speed. Normally a handoff is given after departure to center frequency. We did not stipulate that we needed a clearance into class B airspace, because we had given him our direct yardley VOR and climb to 8500 ft. There was no response from teb, about anything we had to do after takeoff. We found out later that we had #2 inverter inoperative, which if someone called us, we may not have heard them, due to its intermittent lag. We are not happy with this episode, we will request a full readback from controllers, and not to assume a handoff.

Title: CPR AC69 FLC DEPART ARPT WITH OTHER FLYING ACTIVITY BEING CONDUCTED. PLT MISINTERPS DEP CLRNC FOR AUTH TO PENETRATE INTO CLASS B AIRSPACE. PLT DIRECTED TO DSND CLR OF CLASS B AIRSPACE.

Narrative: ON JUN/XA/98 AT APPROX XA00 HRS, WE WERE DEPARTING TEB ON RWY 24. WE HAD JUST LANDED, 30 MINS SOONER, DISCHARGED PAX, REFUELED, AND CONTACTED TEB CLRNC. AT THIS POINT, I WOULD LIKE TO SUBMIT THAT TEB HAD A SPECIAL EVENT IN EFFECT AND THE TFC AND COMS WERE HVY. WE REQUESTED DEP DIRECT YARDLEY VOR, THEN DIRECT ESN. WE WERE TOLD TO TAXI TO RWY 24. AFTER ABOUT 20 MINS, WE WERE APPROVED FOR TKOF. AFTER TAKING OFF AND INTO A CLB, WE FINALLY WERE ABLE TO CONTACT TEB TWR AND REQUESTED A HDOF, BECAUSE HE NEVER GAVE US ANY INFO TO THIS POINT. WE THOUGHT THIS WAS STRANGE UNDER THE CLASS B AIRSPACE. AFTER WE CONTACTED TEB TWR, HE STATED THAT WE WERE IN CLASS B AIRSPACE, WITHOUT A CLRNC. I RESPONDED, 'THANK YOU.' HE THEN SAID, 'TURN TO THE W AND DSND TO 2000 FT.' WE ATTEMPTED TO DO THAT, BUT EVEN THOUGH TURNING WESTWARD TO SOLBERG VOR, WE HAD TO CLB TO 2000 FT, DUE TO HAZE AND SAFE OBSTACLE CLRNC. WE WERE NOT GIVEN ANY FREQ TO CALL. CONTRIBUTING FACTORS MAY HAVE BEEN THE SPECIAL EVENT AT TEB. WE ASSUMED, AFTER CLRNC, TO PROCEED TO YARDLEY AT CLB SPD. NORMALLY A HDOF IS GIVEN AFTER DEP TO CTR FREQ. WE DID NOT STIPULATE THAT WE NEEDED A CLRNC INTO CLASS B AIRSPACE, BECAUSE WE HAD GIVEN HIM OUR DIRECT YARDLEY VOR AND CLB TO 8500 FT. THERE WAS NO RESPONSE FROM TEB, ABOUT ANYTHING WE HAD TO DO AFTER TKOF. WE FOUND OUT LATER THAT WE HAD #2 INVERTER INOP, WHICH IF SOMEONE CALLED US, WE MAY NOT HAVE HEARD THEM, DUE TO ITS INTERMITTENT LAG. WE ARE NOT HAPPY WITH THIS EPISODE, WE WILL REQUEST A FULL READBACK FROM CTLRS, AND NOT TO ASSUME A HDOF.
