Socal departure handoff and clearance readback resulted in 4-5 mi horizontal deviation to near off airways, vectors returned aircraft without conflict, report being filed to protect record. ZLA queried where clearance originated which is interpreted by this airman (reporter) as a problem that could have been avoided if clearance was not 'pom as filed.' requested clearance was direct pom direct hec direct sgu.
